The biggest ever upgrade to Pinewood's Pinnacle dealer management system has been issued free to all customers.
A major feature in the upgrade is integrated chip and PIN credit and debit card functionality, making Pinnacle the only DMS system on the UK market to offer this.
Integrated chip and PIN solves one of the most time consuming daily accounting problems found in dealerships as it gives users the ability to automatically reconcile all card transactions within the DMS and streamlines what is usually a manual process.
Other changes include enhanced reporting functions across most modules and the ability to send out text message mailshots - including campaign and promotion scripts - all from within the CRM section of the software.
Another new CRM tool is the ability to set up automated text messaging campaigns for aftersales bookings that remind customers to make an appointment for their next service.
Upgrades happen automatically for all dealers using Pinnacle thanks to Pinewood's software-as-a-service model where the DMS is accessed as a web based service rather than installed on a dealer based server. Users therefore always have access to the latest features without having to manually load new software.
Pinewood sales manager, Geoff Miller, explained: "One of the key advantages of the software-as-a-service model is that upgrades can be made very simply. The customer has to do nothing and the changes are made for them automatically and without upgrade costs.
“Because of this, Pinnacle is upgraded much more regularly than it would be with a dealer based server DMS. We make changes several times a year, usually as a result of factors such as feedback from our users, new technology and changing legislation.
"We issued six free major upgrades during 2006 but this, the first of 2007, is very comprehensive and includes a whole range of new features, including chip and PIN functionality."
