An open day promoting the benefits of chip and PIN payment technology for dealers took place earlier this month at the Birmingham offices of dealer management systems specialist Pinewood.
The event, which was open to all customers, had been organised following high levels of interest from dealers after Pinewood announced that chip and PIN payment technology could now be integrated into their Pinnacle dealer management system, currently the only DMS available in the UK with this feature.
Presentations included a session from The Logic Group, Pinewood’s selected payment processing partner. This relationship gives Pinewood PCI Compliance, meaning all Pinnacle chip and PIN transactions meet a recognised standard set of requirements governing the safekeeping of cardholder information throughout the transaction process.
During the hands-on workshops, dealers looked at all elements of implementing chip and PIN functionality - including handset technology and test transactions such as vehicle deposits, parts and workshop sales, together with the refund process. Also discussed was the customer implementation and ongoing support process.
Managing director Neville Briggs commented “It was important for our potential users to come to Pinewood and see how this technology will benefit them. Equally as important is that they understand that PCI compliancy means that the data provided by their own customers is encrypted and secure."
He explained that integrated chip and PIN payment technology allowed dealers to streamline the sales process for their own customers “There is now no need to leave the customer to find a PDQ machine as the transaction is carried out by the individual making the purchase at the point of sale – for example in the showroom or the parts department.
“The card does not leave the sight of the customer - replicating the control and ease of processing all consumers experience on the High Street.
Briggs continued: “Additionally, chip and PIN solves one of the most time consuming daily accounting problems found in dealerships by automatically reconciling within the DMS all debit and credit card transactions - until now an unrewarding task left for dealership accounting staff to complete manually at the end of each day. This is seen by our customers as a major selling point."
Implementation of chip and PIN for Pinnacle customers who are migrating to this technology will be taking place from April, giving them time to arrange merchant details, receive devices and ensure their own hardware meets the recommended specification.
